ABOUT

Adam Girardet is an Emmy Nominated Costume Designer based in Los Angeles working mostly in film and television. Adam’s approach to Costume Design is to be the first line in the defense of character. He firmly believes that an audience can take in more information through costume, before a character even utters a line, than through any other medium on screen or stage. Clothing is after all a universal experience for humans, and they speak volumes to all of us. Through deep collaboration with the creative teams on projects he always seeks to find the best answer to the question of character, all while striving to keep the visuals dynamic, engaging and in full service to the story being told.

Before making the move to LA in 2015, Adam lived in NYC where he concentrated his costume work mostly on theater, contributing to various Broadway and Off-Broadway productions, as well as film and commercial work. This broad range of experience has provided him with involvement in genres running the gamut from ancient period to fantasy to futuristic sci-fi, and everything in between. His most recent credits include Assistant Designing “Angelyne” (Peacock/ Universal Television Productions) and “Hollywood” (Netflix/ Ryan Murphy Productions).

Adam started his design career in Set and Production Design having received his Bachelor’s Degree in Theatrical Design from State University of New York College at Buffalo. His studies there introduced him to many classes in design that not only covered set work, but theatrical study as a whole. These included intensive classes on Costume Design that sparked a major interest in the craft. From there he headed to New York and began designing small budget indie films and theater productions. Feeling confident in his abilities, he began offering up his services as both Production and Costume designer on various projects, quickly discovering that his passion for costume work outweighed the others.

His work in the world of professional theater started when he was hired as the production tailor and in-house swing costumer on the smash Broadway hit “The Producers”. From there he went on to work on various Broadway shows filling many different roles within the costume department, eventually working his way into design positions. Between productions he would take work on feature film sets and found he loved that medium as well.

Deciding to transition into more film and television work was a catalyst for his decision to move to LA. Since arriving he has begun climbing the ranks once again, joining the Costume Designers Gulid IATSE 892 in the process and leading to his work today with studios such as Universal, Disney, Fox and Netflix among others.
